Thesis Statement
Proper urban dwelling is more than just housing, it is a link to traffic, public facilities, green space, and has an impact on the quality of the cities living space and fundamental interaction among the inhabitants. Its introduction can work as an agent in establishing an epicenter for urban infrastructure rather than an attempt to seamlessly merge with the existing structure and thus it can actively begin to contribute to its facilitating environment. The vibrancy of life that it produces should enhance the everyday experience of the human to built environment interactions, from the simplest and functional qualities, it can transcend to inspire growth, life and prosperity of the social situation occurring around it through time. Able to adapt to changing ideologies, typologies, community needs and values. Social housing is an underdeveloped sector in this country and is in crisis. Unfortunately its establishment and re-development is heavily associated with political weight and intervention, structuring the development that is more sensitive to 4-8 year electoral cycles rather than the long term 60 year cycles of the social housing projects. The planning and architectural approach needs to be progressive and sensitive to the site specific patterns of growth and leadership, building on the established forms of social infrastructure, offering the resident‘s opportunity rather that providing for them with a cold calculated formula based on narrow parameters of a few formal urban planning.
